Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy is like talk therapy with a colorful twist. I like to think of the arts as languages that can be used as alternatives to talk. Doing a drawing, or making sounds or movement can help us dig deeper into our psyches and pull out thoughts and feelings we didn’t know how to verbalize.

And then we talk about it.   worldwithwingscounseling.com

Doing therapy in this way is different, new and scary for some people. But it doesn’t have to be. There is no one right way to do this work, and if you have a responsive and attentive therapist you will be able to do the work in a way that is helpful and healing for you.

Sometimes using the expressive arts in therapy looks like doing art work within the session spontaneously, either directed by the therapist or the client. Art work can also be given as ‘homework assignments’ to do later, on your own time. When the product is brought back into the session it can be discussed, and both the experience of doing and the experience of processing it can be key features in the cataclysmic nature of Expressive Arts Therapy.

I encourage you to try it out with your nearest practitioner. If that is me, please come in for a 30 minute FREE consultation. That is your opportunity to ask lots of questions, and to gain clarity on what it is you are looking for, and how Expressive Arts Therapy can help you achieve it.

If you are seeking greater strength in your identity and your intentions in your daily life, I know this work can help you. It would be my honor to witness your growth.
